Profile 
Bob was first elected in a bi-election in 2016 from a pool of seven other candidates. In the 2022 election, Bob was acclaimed, marking 2 ½ terms (10 years) of his service to our community and to the residents of Newmarket.
As an elected Board Member at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and Ontario Small Urban Municipalities (OSUM), Bob represents all 444 municipalities in Ontario. This provides him an opportunity to better understand policies and challenges faced by all Municipalities. These Board positions create him an opportunity to help shape Province-wide policies while representing Newmarket interests.
Bob has always been a strong community leader. He is involved in many local charities but is mostly recognized by his involvement in Traffic Safety and for being a strong advocate for safety in our communities. Bob and his family have been members of the Newmarket Historical Society to better appreciate our rich Newmarket history. Bob is also a strong supporter of the local business community. He sits on the Board of the local BIA and is very involved with the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce.
For over 30 years, Bob Kwapis focused on the Telecommunications industry in Canada and in North America. His expertise helped companies find efficiencies through implementation of new technologies, outsourcing, and through management realignment. Bob is an expert at helping companies drive smart revenues through building, coaching and leading management. This leadership experience is of great benefit to the Town Council position.
Bob has been a VP of sales and marketing at TELUS Communications for over 11 years. He was a founding member for TELUS' expansion into Ontario. As an AVP, he later took on efficiency responsibilities to merge Canada-wide Enterprise Sales groups into one national sales teams. He also took leadership roles in various M&A initiatives. He managed P&L annual revenues of almost $700 mil. This experience is of great benefit, especially during the annual Town budget setting exercise.
Prior to joining TELUS, Bob had a successful career at Bell Canada and Bell Nexxia. He held various senior sales and management positions focusing on revenue growth in the banking and financial sector. His ability of becoming a "C" level trusted advisor helped solve multiple business challenges impacting the Canadian banking industry.
Bob holds various certificates from Ivey School of Business, Rotman School of Business, and Ryerson University. He sits on various advisory Boards and Steering Committees in the IT and Telecom industry. He is a recipient of many achievement and recognition awards.
