Recently, the Globe and Mail released their second annual ranking of the most liveable cities in Canada and Newmarket was number 48 on the list this year out of 488 communities from coast to coast, with a population over 10,000 people. That puts Newmarket within the top 10 communities in Ontario to make the list.
“We are grateful to once again be recognized as a top liveable community in Canada, which speaks to the high quality of life we are very fortunate to have here in Newmarket and is really not a surprise for those of us who live here, we know what a special place this community is,” says Mayor John Taylor. “A big thank you to our community because working together with our residents and our many community partners, we have been able to achieve extraordinary things and that is what continues to put Newmarket on the map across Ontario and throughout Canada.”

The Globe and Mail’s national ranking features data on how each community performed relative to others in various categories. The ten categories, include: economy, housing, demographics, health care, safety, education, community, amenities, transportation, and climate. Newmarket moved from the top 100 (#83) last year into the top 50 (#48) in 2024.
