Over the next 25 years, York Region's population is expected grow by 68%. Metrolinx is building in and around Newmarket to provide residents with more connections and better service that meets the demands of the growing population, regardless of how you choose to get around.
For Newmarket residents, this means more connections to the entire GO network with faster, more frequent local service. To make this happen, Metrolinx will be building a new station on Mulock Drive to serve area residents. Located just south of Newmarket GO Station, Mulock is one of four recommended new stations proposed to be built outside the City of Toronto. This is in addition to new weekend service on the Barrie line and expanded track work happening between Aurora and Union GO Stations. The goal is for 30-minute two-way weekday rush hour service between Newmarket and Union stations.

Mobility Hub Study - Newmarket GO Station
A
Mobility Hub Study for the Newmarket GO Station (Tannery) has been completed by Metrolinx, the Town of Newmarket and
other agencies. The purpose of this Study was to identify opportunities to
improve the GO Station and the surrounding area over the
short and long-term. Key GO station improvements are focused on
better integration with local transit, improved signage and
wayfinding, new pedestrian and cycling connections, and enhanced
customer amenities such as bicycle parking, pick-up and drop-off
areas, ticketing and transit plazas.
Status: The project commenced in December, 2016 and was completed in March, 2018.
Available: The Mobility Hub Study is available in its entirety, here.
Mulock GO Station
In June 2016, the Province
announced that five new stations would be constructed along the Barrie rail
corridor, one of which being in Newmarket in the vicinity of the rail corridor
and Mulock Drive. Since that time, Town staff have been working with Metrolinx and other agencies to develop a site plan for the station
lands.
Quick facts about the future Mulock GO Station:
- It will be located along Mulock Drive at the rail corridor.
- It will be a full service station that integrates with bus service and bicycle trails.
- The detailed design is being undertaken by Metrolinx, the Town and Region and LSRCA (as well as other agencies).
Status: Design work for the station is expected to be complete by August, 2018.
Mulock Station Area Secondary Plan
A separate planning study is being led by the Town of Newmarket for the lands surrounding the Mulock Station: the Mulock Station Area Secondary Plan. This Plan will establish the necessary planning framework to permit additional densities and land uses in the area around the station, in a transit-oriented manner. Public consultation will play a leading role in the creation of this Plan.
Status: The project will commence in May, 2018.
